Micheál Sheridan and Deidre Finn from the Foundation were thrilled to meet the wonderful pupils and staff of Scoil an Athar Tadhg in Carraig na bhFear recently. The pupils and staff there raised €9,453 from the sale of the schools 2016 CD featuring the children’s talents and guest artist, Peadar Ó Riada and Danny Mhaidhc Ó Suilleabháin of Chór Chúil Aodha fame and will go towards Bowel Cancer Research.
This is the sixth year of the school’s CD project and the cheque was the biggest amount raised to date! The project was once again driven by Mr. Hanafin who thanked the children and staff colleagues who gave so generously of their time selling the CD. Mr. Hanafin reserved a special mile buíochas for his retired colleague Mrs. Helen Bailey who once again was delighted to assist with the sales and Mr. O’ Brien for assisting with the project.
The purpose of the project was to collect funds to support Bowel Cancer Research at the Mercy Hospital and the success of the venture is due to the generous people of Carraig na bhFear, Blackpool, Ballyvolane, Fermoy and the customers of Ryan’s Super Valu in Glanmire that gave donations or purchased the CD.
School Principal, Mr. Dermot O’Driscoll said “It was an immensely proud day for Scoil an Athar Tadhg. Teaching the children to care for the less fortunate in terms of health was a valuable lesson and supporting research work can only make our future brighter.“
