The Mercy Stars is an event to recognise those individuals, teams, and fundraising volunteers who go the extra mile for patients and colleagues at Mercy University Hospital. The awards are a celebration of all that is great about our fundraising volunteers and the staff behind Mercy University Hospital’s exceptional care for patients and their families. The following are the 2017 Mercy Stars Categories.

  • Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year
  • Event Organiser of the Year
  • Door to Door Fundraiser of the Year
  • Corporate Partnership of the Year
  • School Fundraiser of the Year

Special Recognition Categories

Please note: It is not possible to nominate anyone in the ‘Special Recognition Categories’. These will be selected by an internal panel of judges. Judges will choose a winner from the following categories: Schools, Community Groups, Individuals, and Companies.

Our Hero of the Year Award

This award will be nominated by the CEO, Mercy Hospital Foundation.

Judging Process for the Fundraising Awards

The shortlist and winners will be selected by an internal panel of judges.

Hospital Categories*

Clinical Team of the Year 

Includes: Consultant Medical, Surgical, Oncology, Paediatric Teams, Therapies, COPD, Theatre, Endoscopy, Social Work, OPD,ED, Cardiology, Urology, MUCC, Dieticians, Radiology and Labs.

Ward Team of the Year

Includes: St Mary’s, St Therese’s, St Finbarr’s, St Joseph’s, St John’s (Urology & Men’s Health), St Catherine’s, St Patrick’s, St Oliver’s, St Bridget’s, PC3, St Anne’s, Leukaemia Unit, ICU, CCU, AMAU and Stroke Unit.

Support Services Team

Includes: Cleaning, Catering, Security, Maintenance, Stores, Supplies, Laundry/Housekeeping, Hotel Services, Receptionists/Switchboard, Porters and Development.

Hospital Services Team

Includes: Medical Secretaries, Medical Records, Risk & Quality, Hipe, CEO’s Office, HR, Admissions, Bed Management, Nursing Admin, ICT, Finance, Chaplains and Clerical.

*How does the hospital awards voting work?

Please vote for the individual Mercy staff member you deem worthy of recognition. Votes for individuals will then be grouped into the Team that each person who has been voted for belongs to. The team that has the greatest number of total votes will win.

Long Service Award

This category is for staff members that have been in service at the Mercy Hospital for 10 years or more and is not open for voting.

Life Time Achievement Award

This award will be nominated by the Board of Governors and the EMB.

The Awards

Those that win will receive a specially commissioned Mercy Stars Award from Keanes Jewellers.

The Awards Night

The Mercy Stars Awards will be presented at an award celebration on Friday 29th September 2017 at the Clayton Hotel, Lapps Quay, Cork City.
