We need to raise €20,000
Ten thousand people will suffer from a stroke this year, and unfortunately 2,000 will die as a result. Treating a stroke victim as quickly as possible is vital in saving lives and reducing disabilities. The Mercy Stroke unit is one of the leading facilities of its kind in Ireland.
Essential equipment for both the diagnosis and treatment of stroke.
Portable ramps and pressure relieving cushions are needed to make treatment more comfortable for our stroke patients. We will also invest in crucial public and family education packs and other materials to support patients as they are discharged from the hospital and return home.
Resources for our Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Staff
Including the purchase of equipment for our Speech Therapy Team such as communication aids and mirror boxes to give our patients the best opportunity to overcome any disabling effects their stroke has had on their speech. We need to purchase equipment, such as Swallowing Signals lab which is a biofeedback system that would support swallowing therapy for patients, a Videoflouroscopy Chair to facilitate improved imaging and safe transport of patients to X-ray and Baxter pumps to deliver infusions.
